Photography Tour Overview: We specifically designed this short photo tour to
complement our other 'winter escape' trips in the southern United States. On
this particular photography tour we circle Mobile Bay and cross the estuary via
the ferry to Dauphin Island, then return to the mainland via the Gordon Persons
bridge. Our first base is Orange Beach from where we'll explore multiple
locations on the Gulf coast, and make a short side trip to Big Lagoon State Park
in the Florida panhandle. Then via Fort Morgan and a ferry ride to Dauphin
Island for a three night stay. Island highlights include the Audubon Bird
Sanctuary and Fort Gaines and more. A
Dolphin watching trip is also included in our itinerary, and we hope you'll consider
joining our small group. As with all of our photography tours, early and late shooting is scheduled for each day.

Our
itinerary . . .
But first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included photo tour
field notes.
Day 1 |
Mobile to Orange Beach
We'll kick things off at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of our gateway hotel, and
following introductions we'll head for nearby Battleship Park at the top of
Mobile Bay. Then on down the eastern shoreline of the bay for several stops
including Fairhope. We'll pause for the included lunch on our way to the coast,
and after hotel check-in and a short break we'll head out for the late light,
and a Gulf coast sunset.
Orange Beach, 4 nights
Days 2, 3 + 4
| Gulf Coast plus a side trip to the Florida Panhandle
We'll have three full days for subjects such as Shelby Lake, a Dolphin watching
excursion just off the coast, plus a side trip into Florida for Big Lagoon State
Park in the Florida panhandle. Gulf sunsets are stunning, as are easily captured
images of Heron, Pelican, and Crabs, plus Sanderling and Willet shorebirds.
Sunrises and sunsets at various viewpoints are also in our schedule.
Days 5, 6 + 7
| Dauphin Island
We'll finish off our 'mainland' photography along the Gulf Coast prior to
heading to Fort Morgan Historic Site. The fort is an earthen and stockade type
fortification that was involved in the final land battles of the War of 1812.
Construction was finally completed in 1834. After our ferry crossing across the
mouth of Mobile bay to Dauphin Island we'll check-in to our accommodations prior
to shooting another Gulf Coast sunset.
On days 6 and 7 you'll have ample time to photograph a variety of subjects
including Fort Gaines which was named after one Edmund Pendleton Gaines. The
fort was established in 1821, and is best known for its role in the Battle of
Mobile Bay during the American Civil War. Also scheduled are visits to the
Audubon Bird Sanctuary and several early and late excursions for sunrises and
sunsets. Off-shore oil rigs create an eerie contrast, and picture opportunities
as they sit on the distant horizon.
Dauphin Island, 3 nights
Day 8 |
Dauphin Island to Mobile
After early photography and breakfast we'll make our way to Mobile via
Bellingrath gardens which is 65 acre public garden and historic home of Walter
and Bessie Bellingrath, located on the Fowl River. By mid afternoon we'll be
checking into our last hotel, and ready to venture out for our closing photography
shoot in Mobile's historic district. The included dinner on the last night of our photography tour will feature an
'It's You!' presentation of clients in action on this tour by John.
Mobile, 1 night
Day 9 | Departure day
As there isn't any photography scheduled for the day of departure on this trip, your flight home can be arranged for any time today. Transport to the airport is included unless you’re staying on for a day or more.
