Photography Tour Overview: Prior to the arrival of European settlers in
1642, Tasmania was exclusive to it's indigenous Aboriginal
people who named the island 'Lutruwita'. Our photography tour
ranges from historic Richmond to
Freycinet National Park, Campbell Town, Cataract Gorge, and
Cradle Mountain National Park where Wombats and Wallabies are
easy to photograph. The trip also includes a Macquarie Harbour cruise at Strahan,
plus waterfalls, Tessellated Pavement, Port Arthur, and a
second cruise around the Tasman peninsula for spectacular rock
formations. As with all of our photography tours, early and late shooting is scheduled for each day.

Our itinerary . . .
But first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included
photo tour
field notes.
Day 1 |
The Hobart region Our group will meet in the lobby of our
gateway hotel near the Hobart airport at 11:30 am, and we'll
kick things off with the included first day lunch. Then via a few Hobart
bridge shots prior to photography on Mount Wellington. The mountain affords some
excellent views back to Hobart Harbour and city, plus some nice
boulder foregrounds for perspectives. Dinner and evening light
photography in historic Richmond. Near Hobart airport, 1 night
Day 2 | To Freycinet National Park
Early light on a beach near our hotel, then following breakfast we'll
head north along Tasmania's east coast. On route we'll shoot in
a variety of towns, plus the 'Spiky
Bridge', Moulting Lagoon and more. On to Coles Bay for late
light shots of the bay and Hazard mountain range in Freycinet
National Park. Coles Bay, 1 night
Days 3 + 4 | Freycinet to Launceston First light shots
overlooking ocean inlets rocky promontories, then following breakfast we'll take a
slow walk to the Wineglass Bay viewpoint shooting trees, vistas,
and hopefully Wallabies as we go. Via Coles Bay, and on to Campbell Town for
a series of poignant images historically connected to the
British deportation of their 'hardened' criminals. On via historic Evandale to Launceston for two nights. Early light shooting
overlooking the Tamar River on day 4, then following breakfast
we'll take a Tamar River loop out to where the river meets the
Bass Strait.
Subjects will include bridges, a lighthouse, small photogenic
communities plus historical interests and more. Near Launceston, 2 nights
Days 5 + 6 | Launceston to Cradle Mountain National Park We'll explore a nearby
gorge to start our day, then we'll be off in the direction of
Cradle Mountain National Park. A series of small communities
will be explored along with the colorful Sheffield murals. Then
via remote Moina and the Middlesex Plains to Cradle Mountain
National Park. On day 6 we'll shoot Dove Lake both early and
late, plus take a number of short but wonderfully photogenic
and easy walks. You'll likely photograph Wombats and Wallabies while in
the Cradle Mountain area. Cradle Mountain NP, 2 nights
Days 7 + 8 | Strahan and a Macquarie Harbour Cruise
More dawn shooting at Cradle Mountain before breakfast, then one
last amble on a short trail inside the Cradle Mountain National
Park before returning via Middlesex Plains, a pair of lakes and
rustic Zeehan et cetera. Late light at
Strahan harbour. Following some early light photography and
breakfast on day 8, we'll take a Macquarie Harbour cruise which will take
us to Hells Gates [no, not literally!], Sarah Island, and the Gordon River which
winds through a rain forest. We'll also explore the shoreline of
Macquarie harbour during our Strahan stay. Strahan, 2 nights
Day 9 | Strahan to Russell Falls Breakfast and an early departure toward the
mining town of Queenstown this morning. Then various lakes and the wispy Nelson
Falls, followed by a few shots of the King William the 1st mountain
range as we pass through ever changing scenery on our way to our
accommodation near Russell Falls.
Near Russell Falls, 1 night
Days 10 and 11 | Tasman
Peninsula
We'll start our day shooting Russell Falls, then shooting as
we go, we'll cross the Derwent River via the Bowen bridge. If
the light is any better in historic Richmond than our previous
visit at the start of the trip, we'll amble about for a
handful
of images. On to the Tasman peninsula for our two night stay.
On day 11 we'll commence at dawn
shooting the unique Tessellated Pavement. Today we take a spectacular Tasman coastline boat ride to photograph
seabirds, and the fine array of rock formations that dot the
Tasman peninsula. Whales were photographed on a previous trip. Historic Port Arthur will follow prior to an
afternoon break, and late light at Pirates Bay. Tasman
peninsula, 2 nights
Day 12 |
Return to the Hobart airport
Another dawn excursion to start the day, then after hotel
check-out we're detour for a series of
spectacular coastal sandstone cliff scenes. After lunch we'll head northwards, shooting as
we go, and spend the night near the Hobart airport. The included dinner on the last night of our photography tour will feature an 'It's You!' presentation of clients in action on this tour by John. Near
Hobart airport, 1 night
Day 13 | Departure day As there isn't any photography scheduled for the day of departure on this trip, your flight home can be arranged for any time today. Transport to the airport is included unless you’re staying on for a day or more.
