Photography Tour Overview: Churchill, Manitoba is considered to be the Polar
Bear capital of the world, so why not join our Polar bear photo tour and see for
yourself?! The bears linger around Churchill while waiting for Hudson Bay to
freeze over, and two of our three and a half days in Churchill will be spent out
on the tundra in pursuit of great images of the bears. Other wildlife in the immediate vicinity include the Red
and Arctic Fox, the Arctic Hare and various wildfowl. We'll also set up tripods after dark to catch the Aurora Borealis [northern lights] as they'll
most likely
bless us with their appearance during our stay. You'll also have the opportunity to go dog sledding [or dog carting based on the amount of snow coverage], pictures of which we'll arrange for the best effects. Lastly, there's an optional helicopter ride that will take
you to additional remote areas where Polar Bears forage in differing habitats than those we are able to access during our days on the
tundra buggy.

Our
itinerary . . .
But first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included photo tour
field notes.
Day 1 | Winnipeg Please arrive in Winnipeg by early evening. Those folk arriving
early on day 1, or the previous
day, are welcome to join John late morning on day 1 for a Winnipeg photography option
covering several locations in the vicinity of the Red River.
Dinner as a group is included this evening - as are all meals during this
photography tour - during which John will
present an orientation and collection of images shot on a previous photography tour in
and around Churchill.
Winnipeg, 1 night
Day 2 |
Winnipeg to Churchill
After breakfast we'll take a morning flight to Churchill, Manitoba, on
Hudson Bay.
Following hotel check-in and lunch we'll take a cultural and heritage tour
which will likely, and hopefully, be interrupted by wildlife sightings such as
Red Fox and Polar Bear. We'll spend three nights in Churchill which is also a
prime
spot to photograph the northern lights, i.e. the Aurora Borealis, with ample
opportunities to set up tripods and capture some stunning
night skies.
Churchill, 3 nights
Day 3 | Churchill:
Day on the tundra
Breakfast, then at dawn we'll be heading out for a full day photo tour out
on the tundra. The prime objective will be the Polar Bears, and our
tundra vehicle driver will maneuver for the best possible shots of the bears
throughout the day. Red Fox sightings are common too.
Day 4 | Churchill: Hudson Bay and dog sledding etcetera
Dawn at the Inuksuk monument on the edge of Hudson Bay,
then following breakfast the day will be partly taken up with dog sledding and
more. The remainder of the day will be split between those that want to
take a helicopter ride - see 'optional' below - and those joining John to
explore nearby inlets for birds, bears and hopefully a foraging Red or
Arctic Fox. The Arctic Hare is also often seen in and around Churchill.
Day 5 | Churchill:
Day on the tundra, and a late return
flight to Winnipeg
We'll pretty much duplicate day 3 inasmuch as we'll take another full day tundra tour followed by our evening flights back to Winnipeg.
The included dinner on the last night of our photography tour will feature an 'It's You!' presentation of clients in action by John.
Near
Winnipeg airport, 1 night
Day 6 | Departure day
As there isn't any photography scheduled for the day of departure, your flight home can be arranged for any time today.
Please note that the scheduled excursions above may be shuffled to take the best advantage of light,
weather and other tour logistics.
