Photography Tour Overview: Travel Images' Patagonian photography tour/workshop
includes the best of Buenos Aires during stays at the beginning and end of the trip, which will include the colorful La Boca district, Plaza de Mayo and more. We then
fly to the depths of Argentina and Chile for the spectacular mountain pinnacles of Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy, plus the Perito Moreno Glacier, which all lie within the boundaries of Los Glaciares
[The Glaciers] National Park. Then on south into Chile and specifically Torres
del Paine National Park. Our stay there will include shots of Gauchos, abundant
wildlife including Guanaco, Fox, Rhea, and Condors soaring overhead; plus some
of the most spectacular peaks imaginable at both sunrise and sunset. A boat trip
out to Gray Glacier is included, as are a variety of waterfalls and much more.
As with all of our photography tours, early and late shooting is scheduled for each day.

Our
itinerary . . .
But first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included photo tour
field notes.
Day 1 | Buenos Aires We'll
commence our Patagonia photo tour at 12 noon with the included first day lunch, then
set
off to shoot the most photogenic spots in the city from iconic images to
the traditional. Included today will be the colorful La Boca district, and we do
mean colorful! We'll likely run into locals doing the Tango on the Caminito . .
. a dance that has its origins in this region dating back to the 1890's. Our photography in Buenos Aires will be balanced for a slow pace
and light and weather considerations on our second city exploration taking place on day 12.
Buenos Aires, 1 night
Days 2, 3 + 4 | Mount Fitz Roy, Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina
We'll take a morning flight to El Calafate, then head northwards to El Chaltén via stops for Guanaco, and lakes et cetera. Our first views of the magnificent Mount Fitz Roy arrive as we approach El Chaltén.
Our three-night stay in the community places us in position to photograph the spectacular Los Glaciares National Park peaks of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre - 11,073' and 10,280' respectively - at dawn each morning
from several vantage points. Also scheduled are lakes, waterfalls, Gauchos and
canyons peppered with autumn color et cetera. This is a region in which one should often look skywards for the sight of a soaring Condor.
El Chalten, 3 nights
Days 5 + 6 | Perito Moreno Glacier, Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina
More dawn light on Mount Fitz Roy, then a road trip to El Calafate with photography along the way.
After hotel check-in and a short break we'll head to the shoreline of Lago Argentino
for the late light. After sunrise shooting back at the lake and breakfast on day 3, we'll go directly to the western end of Lago Argentino where 80km from El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier lies with its imposing walls of aqua blue ice up to 60 meters high. There
are a variety of viewpoints from which to photograph the glacier, and you can
explore as many as you wish at leisure. While shooting you'll hear and see the
occasional breaking off of ice chunks, and be challenged to capture these as they happen
. . . s'easy, honest! Back to El Calafate for some free time and evening
light images on the shoreline of Lago Argentino once again.
El Calafate, 2 nights
Days 7, 8, 9 + 10 | Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
After another sunrise shoot and breakfast we'll be on the road to Chile's 450,000 acre Torres del Paine National Park. We shoot serendipitous subjects blessed with light as we travel
- usually the elusive Rhea - and will cross into Chile at around midday. While
staying in the park for four nights we'll photograph the stunning Torres del
Paine peaks both early and late from various viewpoints. Other highlights will
include waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and a boat trip to the north end of Lago Grey to photograph Gray Glacier. From a wildlife perspective you'll
likely photograph Guanaco, Fox, Rhea, Upland Geese, the Caracara hawk, the
Austral Blackbird, plus Condors riding the air currents sweeping down from the Andean mountain slopes.
It's always possible that we may spot a distant Puma [Mountain Lion] crossing the
vast landscape too. Night photography is scheduled with shots of the Milky Way
over the peaks.
Torres del Paine National Park, 4 nights
Day 11 | Torres del Paine, Chile, and a return flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dawn light near our hotel one last time, plus we'll be making multiple
photography stops for landscapes and wildlife in Torres del Paine National Park, and along our route as we head to El Calafate for our flights back to Buenos Aires in the late afternoon.
Buenos Aires, 1 night
Day 12 | Buenos Aires and
evening flight departures
More Buenos Aires photography through to early afternoon including the Puerto
Madero waterfront with the striking 'Women's Bridge', followed by the exclusive
quarter of Recoleta and the cemetery which is described as a 'city within a
city' . . . and much more.
We then take our flights homewards from Buenos Aires
[EZE] airport in the evening. Please ensure that your Buenos Aires departure is not before 6 p.m.
Optional: You also have the option of taking our Iguazu Falls extension, with our group taking flights to Puerto Iguazu in the middle of the afternoon
on day 12.
