Photography Tour Overview: Burgundy is not just about wine production, it's
also about ancient villages merging with today's inhabitants to make Burgundy,
the 'Bourgogne' in French, what it is in this, the 21st century. Burgundy's
Côte-d'Or region is the focus of our photography tour and will include chateaus,
ancient towns and villages, an abbey and old town Lyon. Each has it's own
'signature' such as narrow streets laden with colored doors, windows boxes
overflowing with flowers, and much more. As with all of our photography tours, early and late shooting is scheduled for each day.

Our
itinerary . . .
But first things first! We suggest that you set your camera's clock to the local time, as your images will then synchronize with the times in our included photo tour
field notes.
Days 1, 2, 3 + 4 | Burgundy:
Beaune, Semur-en-Auxois, Flavigny and more We'll gather at
9:30 a.m. at our gateway hotel in Lyon, and head northwards to begin our exploration of Burgundy
in the wine capital of the region, Beaune. It's old town is charming with narrow
streets, and the colorful 'Hospices de Beaune'. Then on into rural Burgundy
starting with the Commarin district. You'll photograph
the grandly situated Chateauneuf [new castle] which is a quaint walled town with much to offer in the way of photography, not unlike most other villages in Burgundy. We'll
then shoot canal scenes and more prior to heading on to Semur for our four night stay.
During the included lunch today, John will present a digital orientation of the
photography highlights expected in the coming days.
On days 2, 3 and 4 we'll shoot early and late, and continue to photograph the best of Burgundy's Côte-d'Or
region. Included will be Flavigny - think of the movie
Chocolat - famed for its licorice production
and not chocolate! Noyers is a wonderful old town to photograph, as are a
series of ancient villages including our home town of Semur. The chateau at Posanges
and Fontenay Abbey are also included, as are Vézelay and Avallon. In addition to all of the above, while we are exploring villages on foot there will be plenty
of colored doors, windows, flowers, insects, and still life on the run subject matter to photograph. Then finally, it's also about the rural life we see and photograph between the villages such as hillside vineyards being tended by families, the distant views of red-roofed villages, hedgerows
and country lanes lined with wildflowers, plus Charolais cows peering
inquisitively over fences and hedgerows.
Near Semur-en-Auxois, 4 nights
Day 5 |
Dijon and
Lyon
More early light photography, then breakfast and hotel check-out. We will continue
to explore one or two Burgundy villages as we make our way to Dijon. On the
Dijon menu will be the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, Liberation Square, Saint
Michael church, and the Church of Notre-Dame et cetera . . . but without the
'moutard'/mustard! Then on to Lyon, the second largest
city in France. After early hotel check-in we'll explore
Lyon's old town that is clustered around the Saône River to close the trip.
The included dinner on the last night of our photography tour will feature an 'It's You!' presentation of clients in action on this tour by John.
Near Lyon airport, 1 night
Day 6 | Departure day
As there isn't any photography scheduled for the day of departure on this trip, your flight home can be arranged for any time today. Transport to the airport is included unless you’re staying on for a day or more.
