OUTLINE:  'Mass ascension', 'balloon glow' and more, Albuquerque old town, ghost towns and Sante Fe. Balloon flight is an optional extra

From Spanish colonial village, to a 'significant' metropolis set beside 10,678' Sandia Crest in the Sandia Mountains . . . all in all Albuquerque is a place of many contrasts.  We're there to catch the color and splendor of Kodak's annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, but side trips during balloon 'quiet times' will unearth other 'hidden' facets of the 'distinctive' southwest. A great photo opportunity . . .

OVERSEAS TRAVEL
<> It is recommended, but not imperative, that you arrive a day early to be fresh and on time for the trip!
<> Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish.
<> A late flight arrival on day 1 of the trip might entail you having to find your own way to the first hotel, if not close to the airport.
<> Please note that the ending date of the trip is the day of your departure flight. Please arrange your flights accordingly.

Clients from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australasia should depart their home country a day or two prior to Day 1, so that the commencement of this photography tour isn't missed.

DAY 1  |  Arrive ALBUQUERQUE
I'll meet your early afternoon flights into Albuquerque and make our way to our hotel and take a short break. Then out to Albuquerque ‘Old Town’ which was originally settled in 1706. Our ‘photostrollabout’ of the ‘Plaza’ will provide many southwestern details plus the obvious in the St. Felipe de Neri Church etcetera. If there are balloons over the Rio Grande River in the late light, I'll attempt to make that picture happen for you.
ALBUQUERQUE,  3 nights

DAYS 2 and 3  |  BALLOON FIESTA and side trips
Early on Day 2 the numerous colorful balloons will be our main 'focus' at the 'Special Shape Rodeo'. This is a multi-balloon spectacle, so we'll not be short of color and form as we rise on our own balloon [an optional ride if heights bother you]. You'll be treated to many colorful and comical shapes, with the ‘Creamland Cow’ being this writer’s favorite on Travel Images last trip to the Fiesta!
After a break, we’ll be off to Sante Fe for another ‘photostrollabout’ reminiscent of Albuquerque’s but with the addition of  the Loretto Chapel’s ‘Miraculous Spiral Staircase’ and so on. We’ll be back at Balloon Fiesta Park for the 'Wells Fargo Special Shapes Glowdeo', along with the chance to improve our time-lapse skills during the 'Fireworks Show' that follows.

On Day 3 we'll be back at the Fiesta Field early for another 'Special Shape Rodeo', during which we’ll move around the Fiesta Field as many wondrous balloon compositions develop over our heads. The 'Key Grab' is another fascinating photo shoot which follows.  After a break we'll take to the Turquoise Trail and be on the look-out for wildlife and splashes of autumn color as we go north to the ‘ghost towns’ of Golden, Madrid and Cerrillos for a varied palette of southwest flavored images.  Back in Albuquerque, you'll have the option of repeating either the 'Wells Fargo Special Shapes Glowdeo', the fireworks or both!  The 'Glowdeo' will provide our last opportunity to record the glow emitted from the many balloons ‘sort of’ tethered to the ground! The variable light levels will give us more challenges photographically, but we shall help you overcome!

DAY 4  |  Flights home
Back the Fiesta Field at dawn for the incredible 'Farewell Mass Ascension' followed by breakfast and late morning flights home.
