OVERVIEW:  'Mass ascension', 'balloon glow' and more, Albuquerque old town, ghost towns and Santa Fe. From Spanish colonial village, to a 'significant' metropolis set beside 10,678' Sandia Crest in the Sandia Mountains . . . all in all Albuquerque is a place of many contrasts.  We're there to catch the color and splendor of the annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, but side trips during balloon 'quiet times' will unearth other 'hidden' facets of the distinctive southwest. A wonderfully colorful photo opportunity, plus you may take a balloon flight if you so wish.

TRAVEL TO THE GATEWAY AIRPORT
o It is recommended that clients arrive a day early to be fresh for the trip, and to also counteract possible flight delays.
o Early arrival also enables you to explore the gateway city should you wish to do so.
o When booking flights, add a day for overnight travel or two days if also crossing the Pacific Ocean/International Dateline.
o The last day of the trip is the date you should arrange your flight home unless you plan to stay on. Thank you!

DAY 1  |  Arrive ALBUQUERQUE
I'll meet your early afternoon flights into Albuquerque and make our way to our hotel and take a short break. Following a digital preview of things to come, we'll head for Albuquerque ‘Old Town’ which was originally settled in 1706. Our ‘photostrollabout’ of the ‘Plaza’ and surrounding nooks and crannies will provide many southwestern details such as hanging Chiles, plus the obvious in the St. Felipe de Neri Church etcetera. Dinner in one of New Mexico's oldest structures just off the plaza.
ALBUQUERQUE,  3 nights

DAYS 2 and 3  |  BALLOON FIESTA and side trips
At dawn on Day 2 the numerous unique shaped balloons will be our main 'focus' at the 'Special Shape Rodeo'. You'll not be short of color and form, and be treated to many colorful and comical shapes, with the ‘Creamland Cow’ being this writer’s favorite on Travel Images' on Fiesta workshops since 1997. After a break, we’ll be off to Santa Fe for lunch and another ‘photostrollabout’ reminiscent of Albuquerque’s but with the addition of  the Loretto Chapel’s ‘Miraculous Spiral Staircase’ and so on. We’ll be back at Balloon Fiesta Park for the 'Special Shapes Glowdeo' to give you the chance to hone your time-lapse photography skills, and during the firework display that follows.
On Day 3 we'll be back on the Fiesta Field at dawn for another 'Special Shape Rodeo', during which we’ll move around the Fiesta Field as many wondrous balloon compositions develop over our heads. The 'Key Grab' is another fascinating photo shoot which follows. After a late morning break we'll take lunch in Albuquerque, then head for the Turquoise Trail. As we go north to via the ‘ghost towns’ of Golden, Madrid and Los Cerrillos you'll shoot a varied palette of southwest flavored images. Sunset out in the high desert, and back to Albuquerque for dinner.

DAY 4  |  Flights home
Back to the Fiesta Field prior to dawn for the incredible 'Farewell Mass Ascension' followed by breakfast and a trip to the airport. In the interests of photography I suggest you arrange your departing flight for 12:30 p.m. onwards. Free transport to Grand Junction, Colorado, is available for those taking my Red Rock Country photography tour.
